1. Lady Macbeth: “When you durst do it, then you were a man. And to be more than what you were, you would. Be so much more the man” (1.7 56-58). In this quote Lady Macbeth is mad at Macbeth because he wont go put the knife in the king's guards room. This makes her mad because if he doesn't they wont have the murder weapon and they wont be found guilty as easily. Her meaning is that Macbeth’s claims of being a man are all meaningless, unless he takes action to demonstrate it by putting the knives with the guards.
2. Lady Macbeth: "If much you note him you shall offend him and extend his passion feed and regard him not [drawing Macbeth aside] are you a man?" (3.4 68-72). This quote is said when Macbeth sees Banquo and she starts to act unusual. Macbeth starts to lose his mind and Lady Macbeth pulls Macbeth off to the side and asks him if he is a man. Only Macbeth can see Banquo, so everyone else is wondering what he is freaking out about and that is why Lady Macbeth pulls him off to the side and questions his manliness.
3. Malcolm: “Let’s make us medicines of our great revenge to cure this deadly grief” (4.3 252-254). In this quote Ross is telling Macduff that his family has been savagely slaughtered and Malcolm tells Macduff to take it like a man and turn the sorrow into rage and anger towards Macbeth so that he will fight back.
4. Macbeth: “I’ll fight from my bones my flesh be hacked. Give me my armor.
Seyton: Tis not needed...” (5.3 38-40) In this quote Macbeth knows he needed to fight his enemy like a man and do what a king and a man must do for his country. He is told not to, but he knows if he doesn’t fight he would be thought of as a coward and not a man or a strong king.
5. Macbeth: “Tis better thee without than he within. Is he dispatched?
Murderer: My lord, his throat is cut. That I did for him. “(3.4 16-18) In this quote the murderer is reporting back to Macbeth that he has killed and dispatched Banquo. The only problem is that Fleance, Banquo's son, escaped which the murderer also reports. This is unmanly of Macbeth because he has someone else kill Banquo for him. I think if I were in his position I would do it myself so I would insure it would be done correctly.
