Macbeth Manlyness Quotes

1. Lady Macbeth: “When you durst do it, then you were a man. And to be more than what you were, you would. Be so much more the man” (1.7 56-58). In this quote Lady Macbeth is mad at Macbeth because he wont go put the knife in the king's guards room. This makes her mad because if he doesn't they wont have the murder weapon and they wont be found guilty as easily. Her meaning is that Macbeth’s claims of being a man are all meaningless, unless he takes action to demonstrate it by putting the knives with the guards.

2. Lady Macbeth: "If much you note him you shall offend him and extend his passion feed and regard him not [drawing Macbeth aside] are you a man?" (3.4 68-72). This quote is said when Macbeth sees Banquo and she starts to act unusual. Macbeth starts to lose his mind and Lady Macbeth pulls Macbeth off to the side and asks him if he is a man. Only Macbeth can see Banquo, so everyone else is wondering what he is freaking out about and that is why Lady Macbeth pulls him off to the side and questions his manliness.

3. Malcolm: “Let’s make us medicines of our great revenge to cure this deadly grief” (4.3 252-254). In this quote Ross is telling Macduff that his family has been savagely slaughtered and Malcolm tells Macduff to take it like a man and turn the sorrow into rage and anger towards Macbeth so that he will fight back.

4. Macbeth: “I’ll fight from my bones my flesh be hacked. Give me my armor.

Seyton: Tis not needed...” (5.3 38-40) In this quote Macbeth knows he needed to fight his enemy like a man and do what a king and a man must do for his country. He is told not to, but he knows if he doesn’t fight he would be thought of as a coward and not a man or a strong king.

5. Macbeth: “Tis better thee without than he within. Is he dispatched?
Murderer: My lord, his throat is cut. That I did for him. “(3.4 16-18) In this quote the murderer is reporting back to Macbeth that he has killed and dispatched Banquo. The only problem is that Fleance, Banquo's son, escaped which the murderer also reports. This is unmanly of Macbeth because he has someone else kill Banquo for him. I think if I were in his position I would do it myself so I would insure it would be done correctly.

Recurring theme in The Odyssey

Throughout the Odyssey there was one reoccurring

theme that I noticed and that theme was the power of cunningness.

Odysseus who is very strong but uses his mind to conquer all problems that he encounters. When the Cyclops captures him he knows that he cannot overpower the Cyclops and that even if he were able to do so, he wouldn’t be able to move the boulder from the door. So he thinks around his disadvantage in strength by exploiting the Cyclops’s stupidity. Though he does use violence to put out the Cyclops’s eye, this display of strength is part of a larger plan to deceive the Cyclops and sneak out with the sheep. [225,489-491]

Similarly, Odysseus knows that he is no match for the host of strong young suitors in his palace, so he makes the most of his other strength, his wits. Step by step, through disguise and trickery, he arranges a situation in which he is with his son and armed and the suitors are locked in a room with him. With this setup, Odysseus' superb talents as a warrior would enable him to accomplish what he wanted to do, which is to kill all of the suitors. [438,480-485]

Odysseus’s encounter with Achilles in the underworld is a reminder. Achilles won great glory during his life but that life was brief and ended violently [265,547-558]. Odysseus, on the other hand, by virtue of his wits, will live to an old age and to die in peace.

Here comes the Moss

There once was a time when the Vikings had Bret Favre and they also had Randy Moss. Well that time has come. Yes its true Moss, the big number 84, has returned to the Vikings. Some may view this as a god send because we have needed a wide receiver since Sidney Rice has gone down with his bad hip. Also some may view this as a tragedy because of what happened when Moss played for us earlier. I think this is a blessing. At this time we have no good wide receiver because Rice is out with is hip. Coupled with Bret and Moss' towering desire to play with each other. I think Moss might just save us.

opinion essay "Grading teachers"

Some students ask their teachers what would you get in this class. Well now you can if you got to ratemyteacher.com. You could rate you teacher on the bias of simplicity of the class, ability to understand the class, the teacher’s helpfulness, and their popularity. Your ratings are also anonymous so you can tell how you really feel about that teacher.

I think this is a brilliant idea because if you are new to a school or are going into a new grade you can see what people think about your teacher. Also if you just finished that grade and you either liked or disliked the teacher you can say that and he wont know who you are. You can also add a new teacher if the one you want to grade is not there.

This could also be good for schools. It could be used to see if a teacher came from a different school, the administration could look on ratemyteacher.com and see what students think of the teacher you want to hire. But you would not want to base your decisions solely on this because there is nothing stopping you from rating them 100 times if you want.

This could be good or bad. I think this is an ingenious idea and will be expanding overtime. Also will be adapted for different uses.

Doug compared to Luke Skywalker

Luke and Doug have many things in common but also have many differences. I think they have more differences then similarities. My first difference is that Luke kills people, as in storm troopers, to save his friends.P Where as Doug has to leave his comfort zone to save his friend so he doesn't die.I An example of where Doug leaves his comfort zone is when he buys the diamond from the thug in the parking lot.E Where in Star wars Luke uses his knowledge of the force and combat strength to save Princess Leia.E Secondly is that Luke respected his father.P An example of this is when Luke says after his family’s farm has been destroyed “There’s nothing for me here now. I want to learn the ways of the force and become a Jedi like my father”I The like my father show that he liked his father and wants to be like him.E My best similarity is that they each wanted to save a loved one.P They may have done it in complete different ways but in the end they saved their friends.I Doug saved his by buying the diamond and giving it to Quinn.E Luke by killing hordes of stormtroopers.E In the end they both save who would have otherwise have died.
